Gillian Arbroath

Fashion model & aspiring boutique owner

A highly successful model, Gillian worked  in London, Paris and New York modelling for well known fashion houses. When Stephen persuaded her to move to Feltbury Green, she decided to use her talents to bring couture to the countryside.  She was delighted to discover her old friend Vivienne Ellington living just over the river, now they plan to open a boutique together in Feltbury

Stephen Arbroath

Publisher

Stephen runs a publishing company in London and travels up to town each day by train. He loves Feltbury Green, relaxing in his garden during the weekends and taking Rolo his chocolate labrador for long country walks. His wife Gillian always makes sure he is dressed in the latest designs!

Alfred Beetlewick

Feltbury Green Doctor

Alfred studied medicine at Edinburgh University.  Helping sick children was always his dream. So when a position came up in the children's ward at Charing Cross Hospital in London, he jumped at the chance.  It was here that he met Elsie, a nurse working on his ward and they married within a few months. Looking for a quieter life, they moved to Feltbury Green to set up a surgery under the new NHS

Elsie has years of nursing experience and loves working alongside her wonderful Alfred (or Alf as she calls him) at the Feltbury Green surgery. Elsie and Alfred are both accomplished violinists and play for Feltbury Green church, as well as the local Feltbury orchestra

Andrew Bond

General Hand at Feltbury Castle

Andrew plays trumpet with the church band alongside Peter Venables . He admires Susan Claybourne, but is too shy to ask her out on a date. He might pluck up courage a bit more quickly if he knew Peter also fancies her!

Stable Hand at Fell Farm

Susan loves horses.  She is an accomplished rider, having won a number of local and national horse jumping events. She hopes one day to run her own stable. Despite all the amourous attention she recieves, her love is just for her horses which she keeps at the stables at Fell View Farm

Hon Nancy Feltbury

Wife to Peregrine Feltbury and Novelist

The Honourable Nancy Feltbury is a very successful author. Her novels sell across the world and pay for the upkeep of Feltbury Park and a very extravagant lifestyle. Nancy is the daughter of Giles and Winnie Meadowcroft and sister to Adam. She went to school in Feltbury Green and loved writing, so pursued a career as a novelist. Her romantic novels are loved globally and sell by the thousands. She met Peregrine at regular Feltbury Green social events as they were growing up and their own romance eventually blossomed, leading to an engagement and marriage within a year

Agnes Fothergill

Head Teacher of Feltbury Green school

Agnes started as a teacher at Feltbury Green school during the First World War.  Sadly her betrothed was killed in the trenches of Flanders. When the head teacher was called up to serve in the Second World War, she was promoted to head teacher.  She loves Feltbury Green and teaching the school children. She makes the children laugh by blowing her whistle very loudly and for a long time. The pupils have nicknamed her Shrillgill

Christie Family

Village Store & Post Office Owners

The Christie family own and run the village shop and Post Office. Stocking all the essentials needed by the village, they also sell newspapers which need to be delivered around Feltbury Green. The store is a great place to bump into people and partake in a little village gossip 

Vivienne Ellington

Dress designer & maker

Vivienne met Gillian Arbroath whilst working in the fashion industry. A highly skilled and outstanding dress maker, she made a number of designer outfits modelled by Gillian in London, Paris and New York. She is now partnering with Gillian in Feltbury as they set up their new fashion boutique

Sara Ellington

School Girl

Now twelve years old, Sara has recently started at the local Feltbury grammer school. She helps her mother out by running errands whenever she can, whilst also coping with an ever increasing mountain of homework

Ella Emberton & Flossie

Librarian

Ella is a confirmed spinster. She served with the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) during the Second World War. She flew most types of planes during her service time, delivering them to their operational airfields. After all that excitement, she relishes the quiet life of Feltbury Green and managing the library. She knows where all the classic novels can be found on the book shelves

Reverend Jonathan Goodfellow

Parish Vicar

Reverend Goodfellow was born and bred in Feltbury Green. Having sung in the St Cuthbert Church choir as a boy he had a strong calling to the church. He was delighted to become the parish vicar once he had been ordained. He brings boundless energy to his vocation whilst being tirelessly helped by his wife Daphne

Daphne Goodfellow

Wife of Reverend Jonathan Goodfellow

As the wife of Rev Goodfellow, Daphne helps him run St Cuthbert's and his parish.  She sorts out all the paperwork he is so bad at, and also organises all the church events throughout the year. She says there are not enough hours in the day, what with looking after the twins Anne and Matthew as well!

School Girl - Twin to Matthew

Anne is easily led into mischief by her twin brother Matthew and is always getting into trouble because of him. They are known as the "Terrible Twins" in Feltbury Green

Always up to mischief, Matthew spends his time leading his sister Anne astray. Rev Goodfellow, his father, is always trying to get him to behave, but unfortunately without much success! 

Prunella Honeybourne

Small holding and stables owner

Pru adores animals.  She keeps a large menagerie of animals at Fell View, her small farm and stables. The hens and Nelly the goat provide her with all the eggs and milk she needs.  She loves the outside life, looking after her animals and growing her vegetables.  Her cat Socks keeps her company both in the fields and in front of the fire during the long winter nights

Violet Howard


Housewife

Mr Howard likes a clean and tidy house and dinner on the table when he gets home from a hard day's work at the Feltbury bank. Violet puts all her energies into keeping William happy. But she does like to keep her ear to the ground when it comes to village chit chat!

William Howard

Bank Manager

William has worked for the local bank in Feltbury for nearly thirty years. As the branch manager, there is not much he doesn't know about the financial affairs of everybody living in Feltbury Green. But his discretion is always assured! He makes a point of never saying anything bank related to Violet. It would be all over the village in a flash!

Farmer & Owner of Feltbury Farm

The Meadowcroft family has farmed at Feltbury Farm for many generations and are part of the fabric of Feltbury Green

Winnie Meadowcroft

Farmer and Wife

Winnie grew up in a small farming hamlet called Feltbury Bottom a short distance from Feltbury Green. Her family have been farmers since the seventeenth century

Adam Meadowcroft

Farmer and son of Giles & Winnie

Adam has spent his whole life on Feltbury Farm. He now lives with Ava and their "Four D's" in Feltbury Farm Cottage

Ava Meadowcroft

Mother, wife and farmer

Ava came to work on Feltbury Farm during the war as a Land Girl and never left after falling in love and marrying Adam. She juggles bringing up the four children, whilst helping out on the farm

David Meadowcroft

The eldest of the "D's"

David is the oldest of the Meadowcroft children. He helps his father Adam around the farm and takes the role very seriously. His siblings drive him mad at times with their individual quirks

Deborah Meadowcroft

Deborah is very shy and speaks very softly. Her mother Ava thinks she will probably become a scientist as she loves everything to do with nature

Denis Meadowcroft

Denis is six years old and best friends with Matthew Goodfellow. They are as bad as each other, egging each other on, leading each other into all sorts of mischief 

Diana Meadowcroft

The last of the "four D's"

Diana has the sweetest of temperaments but sometimes, her mother says, she is off with the fairies, living in her own little world. Diana is looking forward to joining her sister and brothers at school

Albert Mollett

Village Road Sweeper, Handyman & Part Time Chauffeur

Where would Feltbury Castle be without Albert?  "Knee high in leaves that's where!" as he likes to say. But he always adds, "It do keep me fit and active, so I'm not complaining."  The highlight of  Albert's day is meeting his friends at the Feltbury Arms pub for a swift pint before going home for his tea after a hard day's sweeping or driving for Lord & Lady Feltbury

Milly Mollett

Cook at Feltbury Castle

Never out of her apron, Milly is head cook at Feltbury Castle cooking endless dinner parties and luncheons for Lord and Lady Feltbury. Her speciality is the three birds in one roast, a particular favourite for his Lordship who loves all game!

Jack Venables

Solicitor - Twin Brother to Joseph Venables

Jack's son and his wife were killed during the blitz on London during the Second World War. Peter Venables, their son, had been evacuated to Feltbury Green to live with his grandfather. Jack has brought up Peter after his parents' death. He is very proud of Peter achieving an English first from Oxford and has persuaded him to join his firm of solicitors

Joseph Venables

Solicitor - Twin Brother to Jack Venables

Joseph is a superb solicitor, but does have a few eccentricities!  You can never be sure what direction,  or indeed where your conversation with him might end up. Everybody says he is "a bob or two short of a ten shilling note!" but love him for it nonetheless

Peter Venables

Trainee Solicitor 

Grandson of Jack Venables, Jack has just graduated from Oxford University, where he read English and gained a first. He wants to be a writer, but has been persuaded by his grandfather to train as a solicitor. An active member of the church band, he plays the trumpet. He also has a crush on Susan Claybourne and is trying to build up the courage to ask her out! 

Colonel Harry Wentworth, MC (Ret'd)

Colonel served with the Royal Artillery 

Col Harry Wentworth had a long and distinguished career with the Royal Artillery, serving all over the world. Now retired, he enjoys gardening and playing bridge with his Feltbury Green friends

Isobel Wentworth

Married to Col Wentworth

Isobel leads a full life in Feltbury Green. She helps run the Womens Institute, and is Chairwoman of the Parish Council. She knows everybody and everything that goes on in the village. No secret is ever safe!  She's such a gossip!

June Wittaker

School Girl

June is the niece of Lord and Lady Feltbury. Her parents thought the country air would do June the world of good whilst she is convalescing from TB. Since coming to Feltbury Green from London, June has become the best of friends with Sara

Edward Young

Film Director

An internationally known film director, Edward has directed a number of blockbuster films. He has travelled the world, and met his glamorous wife whilst filming in Hong Kong. He welcomes his days off in Feltbury Green, taking the opportunity to relax and restore his energies for the next film assignment or trip to Los Angeles to pick up an Oscar!
